Arthritis and how mini and midi scooters can help

I was amazed to learn that in the UK over 9 million, yes 9 million people suffer form arthritis. The word Arthritis means inflammation of the joints and means for most people suffering from the disease that they will experience pain and difficulty in moving around. You can take control of your symptoms and continue to have a good life. Using a mobility scooter can be really helpful in being to get about whilst struggling with the pain of Arthritis. Having Arthritis can mean something different to every person and it isn’t just a disease affecting the elderly it can effect people of all ages including children, It is not clear what causes arthritis and there is no cure at present. There are though many things you can do to manage your condition. There are over two hundred kinds of rheumatic diseases and the two most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Sufferers will normally feel a level of; discomfort; pain; stiffness and fatigue from their arthritis and this can lead to frustration a loss of strength and grip making it harder to move around and carry out normal daily jobs. I was surprised to learnt that Gout is another form of arthritis I had always thought it was some thing to do with drinking but actually it is caused by uric acid accumulating in the body. Apparently it is often seen in the big toe but can also affect hands, knees, wrists, elbows and ankles. When you get an ‘outbreak or flare up’ of Gout the affected joints will become swollen, red and extremely painful, fortunately an attack will normally only last for a few days and the joints will return to normal for most people. Whilst it isn’t caused by alcohol limiting the amount you drink can help to reduce the possibility of attacks as alcohol can increase the levels of uric acid in your system. Some time pain killers can be helpful but you should discuss this with your doctor and you should avoid Aspirin as that can increase the levels of uric acid in your system. Red meat is also something that can cause flare ups for sufferers. With over two hundred different types of the disease it is sensible to get as much information and help as you can and a visit to Arthritiscare can be very helpful to you.
Obviously if you are suffering from some form of arthritis then getting about can be very difficult and that is why mobility scooters, wheelchairs or a power chair can help any of them will take the strain from the affected joints allowing you to get to the shops or just around the local area with comfort, or as much comfort as your arthritis will allow you.
