Those people who are unlucky enough to have disabilities that restrict their ability to get about a mobility scooter can be a a very attractive alternative to a manual or powered wheel chair. Mobility scooters can often be lighter, and far more manoeuvrable than power chairs and more appealing on the eye as well for many people. Electric scooters are normally known as mobility scooters this is on occasions to differentiate them from the toy scooters that youngsters use and the even newer craze for electric scooters that seem to be ridden in most towns now by teenagers, though I must admit they do look as though they could be fun! Obviously mobility scooters must not be confused with the motor scooters that were so popular in the 60′s, oh for the days of mods and rockers and some great music or am I just getting old? Probably a lot of us that can remember that era are now are candidates for using mobility scooters though. Technology has taken these scooters on such a long way now with all sorts of extra benefits available to you such admiral seats that rotate to allow you easy access to the mobility scooter. With lift up frames to provide easy access maintenance is now much simpler than before. All round suspension on the larger models means that the quality of the ride is superb, most controls are very simple to use but also very precise making sure that you are in complete control, it’s only the pedestrians who are a nuisance. A lot of the mobility scooters will also have seats that not only slide but will also recline to give you the best possible driving position whilst at the same time ensuring you are totally comfortable, you can adjust both the width and angle of the arm rests should you need to. Most mobility scooters have variable speed settings with some of them capable of doing at 8 mph, though you are only allowed to travel at that speed on the road not on the footpath and you should make sure that you have registered your vehicle with the DVLA if you intend to use it on the road it wont cost you anything to do this, one of the few free things available from the government at present! I wonder how long it will last. Another thought though is that it would be very sensible to make sure that both you and your mobility are insured just in case. So make sure what you get is a mobility scooter not an electric toy or a Vespa, unless you want be a ‘mod’ again
