Electric Beds.

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

For most people a bed is just a sort of big box in the bedroom that you cover up and crawl into at night and hope for a good nights sleep. If however you have some sort of mobility problem or disability then it is much more important that you make the right choice of bed. You are probably going to spend more time in it than other people and so it is a really sensible idea to sit down and work out what you need, is it a conventional divan that you require or would you be better served by having an electric adjustable bed. One thing to consider is that if you have a mobility or disability problem but still decide to purchase an standard type of bed then the price will include VAT, 17:5% at  present and going up to 20% next January a hefty amount in any ones books but if you decide to opt for an electric bed you will be able to purchase that bed on a VAT Exempt basis, obviously you will need to meet certain criteria such having a long term illness or have a permanent disability that affects you in some way, you cant say I have a broken  leg and so I don’t need to pay the VAT that will get better and so it would not be allowed under this scheme. However if you arthritis or rheumatism then you would be eligible under the scheme, obviously there are all sorts of reasons why you should be able to purchase your electric bed without VAT and it does mean that you can probably afford a better type of bed because of this saving. However there are some ‘grey areas’ if one partner is suffering and the other isn’t then correctly if you buy two electric beds then the person who is fit and well should be subject to pay VAT on his or her part of the deal. As well as this it is a requirement that the bed purchased should be specifically designed for some one with a disability, an obvious example is the style of ‘profiling bed’ which will not just sit you up or raise your head or feet but will also raise the whole body and bed up to a position where by some one can nurse you. There are more and more ‘lifestyle adjustable beds’ on the market now and some of them specially the ones which have a Television built in to them tend to fall outside the scope of the scheme and so it is sensible to make sure of just what your buying. Whatever you decide though an electric bed can be a real help to any one who struggles to get a good nights sleep so think carefully and make sure you choose the right electric bed for you!

Electric Beds can be so helpful

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

I struggle with both arthritis and sleep apnoea and as a result my electric adjustable bed is a real help to me, my arthritis is mainly in my ankles and knees but also affects my hips so if lay flat in bed it can be very uncomfortable and so the adjustable bed and all its movements is a great help. I can at the touch of a button raise my ankles slightly to relieve the pressure or just raise my knees for the same reasons and with the memory foam mattress that it has on it I can get so much more relief than ever before. being able to raise my feet helps with blood circulation as well so my blood pressure is easier to control. The beauty of being able to raise the head end of an adjustable bed though means that  my snoring caused by or as part of my sleep apnoea is reduced which in turn means not only do I make less noise to upset my ‘other half’ but my actual sleep is more restful and as a result of that I feel much better each morning when I get up. There are so many reasons for getting yourself an electric bed it does not just have to be something to use if you have a disability there are very attractive beds available nowadays and even adjustable beds with built in TVs or more practically electric beds with drawers in them which means that space under the bed is no longer wasted such a sensible idea. Of course there are certain people who need nursing and the would probably be better off with profile adjustable bedso that their partner or carer can raise them to a higher position to make  life so much easier when that person has to be washed or a dressing changed. Electric beds can be a real benefit to any one who struggles to sleep properly, no more trying to prop yourself up with pillows or putting something under your ankles to help at night just press the button and your adjustable electric bed will be so helpful.

Adjustable beds can change your lifestyle

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

If you have any problems sleeping then an electric bed can possibly be the answer to your problems, the adjustments that can be made with this style of bed are enormous and as a result you will be able to find a  position to help you sleep that you probably would not be able to get with a normal bed. Sleeping is so much more complicated and so much more important to us than people realise, if you don’t sleep properly your whole day can be affected and if you have problems that are ongoing then you can suddenly find your work or your driving and even your private life being disturbed because of lack of proper sleep. If you are  unfortunate to suffer with some thing like a hiatus hernia then sleeping can be a problem as laying flat can make the situation with the acid reflux worse were as if you sleep in an adjustable bed you can make sure your back is raised and that you are in a comfortable position to sleep and so avoid any heart burn that is related to your hernia. If on the other hand you have a problem with circulation you may well find that being able to sleep with your feet in a raised position will be of great benefit as having the ankles raised will help to pump the blood back up your legs from the furthest point from the heart.  Those people who suffer from arthritis or other similar joint problems will feel so much better for using an adjustable bed as they will be able to move their  joints at the touch of a button so relieving pressure that builds up from being in one position for any length of time and if you are one of those people you will already know how difficult it is to do it without an electric bed but if you change to an electric bed your lifestyle will with out doubt improve. The choice is better than ever and there is definitely an adjustable bed that will be just right for you!

Be careful with your Adjustable Bed

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

I was watching television the other evening trying to find a programme that was not anything to do with football when I came across a  consumer advice show called the Ferret and one of the items on it that evening, well I think the main part of the show actually, was about direct sell sales people calling on people in their homes and attempting to sell them an adjustable bed. The TV company and the reporter focused on one particular company who have since been fined heavily for the way they and their sales satff operated once they got inside some ones home. Sales people according to the report were spending four hours or more  in the homes of many  people refusing to go away when asked and then not only charging really high prices 3 or 4 times that of a normal company but also managing to sell a payment plan on top which meant that many consumers were spending another 50% on top of extremely high prices of the bed some of the prices that were mentioned on this television programme were 5 or 6 times higher than the price you find an adjustable bed for on the internet. Later in the show the reporter said that the actual firm concerned had gone in to liquidation and it was possible there would not be enough left in the assets to pay the fines imposed by the court. Having  been in the furniture and allied trades for over 50 years now I have seen many of these pressure style sales companies and their commission based sales people come and go we all have hear stories about double glazing salesmen and kitchen and bedroom sales staff who wont go once you let them into your home and they are not nice but the sales people and companies that employ direct sell high pressure tactics with people with disabilities or mobility problems or long term illness or just the elderly are the worst in my eyes. These adjustable beds are a wonderful products that really can help with sleep and comfort but they can be sold insensible ways that mean the consumer isn’t pressured into buying some thing at a grossly inflated price by some sales person who is greedy and  knows that the higher the price that he can sell it to his or her unsuspecting customer for the  more commission he or she can make. There is a wonderful choice of adjustable beds and with a range of prices and for those people with disabilities mobility problems or long term illness it is  normally possible for you to buy your bed excluding VAT but not every sales person will tell you that. Be careful with your adjustable bed but enjoy it with out paying too much for it!

Adjustable beds for a better nights sleep.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Sleeping is so important to us and an adjustable bed can be a real help but have you ever thought about how you sleep and whether what you do before going to bed is the right or wrong sort of thing? for instance it is recommended in an article I read recently that you make sure that your bed and bedroom are quiet and comfortable for sleeping, I’m not really certain how you keep the bed quiet, but I understand what they are getting at. If you set the right atmosphere then you will create a better nights sleep. It is better to have the room cooler and then use your blankets or duvet on your bed as a means to keep warm. If you want to get a good nights sleep in your bed you should also make sure your curtains don’t let any light in as the early morning light filtering in could disturb your sleep pattern. Once in the bedroom your adjustable bed will help you find the right and most comfortable position for you  and if you want to sit up and read or watch television then it is so much easier with an electric bed. For those of us who suffer with a disability or mobility problems then being able to adjust the bed at the touch of a button is a real bonus, imagine  if you have circulation problems and  need to raise your ankles with a normal be it is a matter of stuffing pillows under your ankles or legs or getting someone to do it for you, then the first time you move they slip out from underneath you  and you need to start again where as with an electric bed it is  just a slight touch to one of the buttons and suddenly and quietly your ankles are moved, sheer bliss! If you have a problem with a hiatus hernia or acid reflux then the possibility of being able to sit up in bed to sleep without  loads of  pillows is just such a relief. the same thing will apply to those people who have heart or blood  pressure problems being able to adjust your position in bed is a great help. If you are a heavy snorer or suffer with sleep apnoea then being able to sleep in different  positions on you adjustable bed could benefit your partner as well as you. So you can see an adjustable bed can be a really useful part of making sure you get a really good nights sleep and as an added bonus if you have a disability problem or a long term illness or you buy your adjustable bed exempt from VAT , you will need to fill a VAT emption form at the time of purchase but if you are buying a bed that costs £500  then you would be saving £87-50 at present and £100 when the new rates come in to force  next year. Well worth having! However what ever your condition an adjustable bed can help to a better nights sleep.

Electric Beds.

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

Electric beds can make your sleeping so much more comfortable. if you are disabled or have mobility problems or even a  long term illness then an electrically adjustable bed is almost a ‘must have’ product. Those off us who struggle with arthritis know the problems of trying to get a nights sleep, getting comfortable in the first place is difficult but then as the pressure of laying in one position for any length of time your sleep gets disturbed you get restless and the pain increases. However if you have an electric bed you can move your body at the touch of a button either raising your ankles or moving your knees or lifting your back up these gentle changes help to reduce the pain and the  pressure, promoting a healthier more restful sleep. Most electric beds offer choices of size and also mattress style from conventional open coil spring units through to pocket sprung mattresses as well as memory foam mattresses or even combinations of both foam and spring units. It is important to get a good mattress for whilst an electrically adjustable bed can help to move you and relieve pressure a poor quality mattress can undo all the good you have done so far.  Do  you want a single version of your electric bed or do you want two singles linked together so that both partners, if there are two of you, can be independent. after all one of you might want to be sitting up whilst the other is laying flat. Though you can always get electric beds in a double size which are  just one  unit but then when you are up you are up and when you are down your down as the ‘Grand old duke of York’ would say, so if you can it is always best to have your own set with your own controls that way there is no arguing. The beauty of these electric beds is that it does not matter whether you are  left or right handed the control unit is fitted so it can be used on either side. Persons who suffer from sleep apnoea or heavy snoring will also find an electric adjustable bed very helpful as it will allow them to sleep in a more up right position and so relieve the pressure on the airways and possibly reduce the actual snoring though if you are one of those unfortunate people who struggle with the more severe forms of sleep apnoea then you will probable need to wear a mask connected to an oxygen supply machine at  night to alleviate the pressure caused on your heart  and possibly your brain. The beauty is that nowadays the electric bed does not need to look  like some thing out of a hospital they are lovely items of furniture which offer comfort and relaxation you would only have dreamed of up until now. So the answer to a good nights sleep is to get yourself set up with an electrically adjustable bed. Sleep well and wake relaxed. Good night.

Recliner chairs and Adjustable beds

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I saw some research quoted in one of the daily papers yesterday, well it made a change from reading all the reports about the election! Basically it was reporting on research done in China about peoples sleeping habits and how sleeping longer each night can help life styles and prolong life. Apparently there are more people in China who are over 100 years old than any where else in the world, now that might be true but according to the report I read it was because they valued their sleep and had at least 10 hours sleep each night! It might just be that there are more people in China than in any other country in the world don’t you think!  Wonder if they had an adjustable bed to help or a recliner chair for in the day to get those extra hours in, probably not but if 10 hours sleep a day can help them to live to ages in excess of 100 years then perhaps we should all be eating more rice and sleeping longer each day and  night! Mind you if we start eating that much rice we might not live to 100 but it will just seem like it! One thing though an adjustable bed will actually improve the sleep of virtually every one who uses one, just imagine being in bed and not feeling comfortable, your ankles ache a bit, so with the press of a button your ankles are raised as the foot end of the bed  comes up slightly, wonderful for you if you suffer from poor blood circulation, or you going to bed with a bit of heart burn and find that laying flat is just not comfortable then it is so easy to use the controls and raise the head end of the bed enabling you to sit up and it will help to dissipate that burning sensation you get with heart burn. Your adjustable bed can also be so comfortable if you want to just sit up and read far better than trying to prop yourself up using pillows! The choice of adjustable beds available nowadays is fantastic you can get them with ordinary spring mattresses, pocket spring mattresses or  now even the latest ranges of memory foam mattresses to make you as comfortable as possible. did you know that the HM Revenue and Customs allow people with disabilities or long term illnesses to purchase their adjustable bed exempt of VAT, you have to sign a VAT exemption form which is  legal declaration about your illness or disability which is held on file by your supplier for inspection by HM Revenue and Customs officer should they wish to do so but it is well worth looking for information with regard to this for if an adjustable bed has a selling  price of say, £695-00 including VAT if you can legitimately sign the VAT exemption form then the price you pay would be reduced to £591-49 ! That is well worth having isn’t, mind you I wonder if after the election this might be withdrawn! Just on the election do you think Mr Brown manages to get  10 hours sleep a night or  does he just  lie there thinking ‘Why is every body a bigot, except me!’ Perhaps he needs an adjustable bed or a recliner chair to help him relax! Sleep well live longer in your adjustable bed!

Sleep well use and Adjustable Bed

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

For most of us a disturbed night can lead to restless days so it is very important that we make sure we sleep well and one of the best ways to do this is to sleep in an adjustable bed. Suddenly the world is a different place you can go to bed with out the worry of getting yourself comfortable, at the touch of a button on the hand control unit and your adjustable bed takes you to just the position you want to be in. It is fantastic to be able to raise your head and sit up and read or watch television from just the right position, then again if you have troublesome hips or knees you can adjust the foot end of your bed so that you are so much more comfortable. Your adjustable bed will help if you suffer from blood  pressure or poor blood circulation, raising your  ankles at the touch of a button can be a real benefit. Those people who suffer from a Hiatus hernia or acid reflux will sleep so much better by using an adjustable bed to allow them to sleep with the back of the bed in an upright position. One thing to check out is whether or not you qualify to be able to purchase your adjustable bed without paying VAT this can  mean real savings for you and in most cases it is easy to confirm that your illness or disability is one covered under this HM Revenue and Customs scheme. Once you decide you are ready for bed there are certain things you can do to help with your sleep as well as using your adjustable bed, get yourself in to  a regular routine, go to bed at the same or very similar time each night if you can, try not to drink any alcohol in the evening as this can affect your sleeping pattern and lead to increased snoring because the throat opens in a different way and this can lead to you and your partner being disturbed so not a good idea. It is also suggested that you don’t read or watch television in bed  just  keep the  bedroom for sleeping and other normal matrimonial activities. Adjustable beds come in  lots off different sizes but one thing to remember about them that nowadays in the UK they are 6′ 6″ (2 metres) long  not 6′ 3″ as a normal UK bed so you will need  longer bed clothes and slightly more room in your bedroom. Whatever you do though make sure you sleep well use an adjustable bed
