Do I need insurance if I purchase a scooter from you?
At present you are not legally required to have insurance for driving your scooter.
However as with all major purchases it would be sensible to take out an insurance policy to cover your mobility scooter against accidental damage and theft as well as third party liability, incase of damage or injury to someone else or their property. We here at Mobilityproducts4U.co.uk feel that this is important and as a result we will provide, free of charge, insurance cover for the first three (3) months that you have your scooter.
If you then wish to continue cover we can arrange that for you. Please tick the relevant box on the order form to confirm you wish to take advantage of this free of charge offer.
Where can I go and does a Scooter need Road Tax?
Scooters that are not capable of going more than 4MPH do not need any form of road tax, but if your scooter is capable of doing more than that speed (4MPH) then you do need to apply for a tax disc from the DVLA. The disc is free of charge and is, in essence, just a registering process for your new machine.
Normally mobility scooters can be driven, with care, on public pathways and pavements. Larger scooters, the ones capable of 8MPH, are legally allowed to be driven on the roads. Experience has however, taught us that driving on the public roads should be avoided when ever possible.
Class 2 mobility allows you to drive on the pavements and footpaths and to cross from one side of the road to the other. This permits you to go anywhere you are normally permitted to go on foot. Class 2 category includes any 4 MPH hour mobility and travel scooters.
Class 3 mobility scooters are normally larger than those in the class 3 category and can go faster! This means they can be driven on the normal roads (not motorways) at speeds of up to 8mph. you do not need a license to drive these on the road but you must obey the highway code and also be able comply with the eyesight requirements and must not be driven under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs.
All Class 3 vehicles are required by law to be fitted with: lights, indicators, horn, rear view mirror, rear reflectors and a manual hand brake. A flashing beacon can be used when driving on the road to warn other road users of your presence and must be used on dual carriageways.
For more information about scooters and the care of them please see our website www.mobilityproducts4u.co.uk or contact us at our office on 01492 818066.
